We have been delivering mental health conferences to their girls which have been really fun and informative for us and the girls. As we deepen our partnership with GBNI one thing the leaders highlighted was that the girls were struggling with body image issues. As we wouldn't have capacity to deliver workshops to every company we decided to get representative leaders together from the different companies and teach the leaders how to run a Made for More workshop. This night of leader training was brilliant, we got to meet lots of incredible women and teach about what the girls in their bridges might be struggling with in terms of body image, their brain, how social media/culture impacts this and how we can speak biblical truth into this. As this was a brand new workshop, to test it out I got to run it with a group of girls. It was eye opening hearing their responses on such an emotive topic. The young people were so receptive and I feel we really made an impact on their lives. I have also been hugely encouraged by the interns this month as I have seen them grow and develop in workshop delivery. Please continue to pray for our interns as they reach the end of their internship; that they continue to learn and grow in their faith. Our team night was a real encouragement as we gathered together for fellowship, worship and prayer over one another. One of the most beautiful things about our team is the love of Jesus shown towards one another, which is a joy to extend to young people across our work. I also had the chance to partner with the Edge Youth in Ballynahinch again ahead of their mission week this summer. The freedom to share the Gospel there with young girls who are not from Christian backgrounds was an honour. Returning to Union Road Presbyterian youth was another highlight as we have been able to build a relationship with the young people there over a number of years now. In the media department there has been a lot going on, filming videos to share the importance of our work and to promote the upcoming internship, Please pray for God’s guidance in the editing and producing process, that we would discern what He would like us to communicate. I had the privilege of speaking to a BB group for the first time on the topic of: How we as men, view and treat women. In a generation where many boys are being formed by harmful and degrading content they see online, the need to encourage and equip young men to understand their own value and the value of women and girls is an urgent need. Following positive feedback from the session, we learned that great conversations are being had between lads and leaders, which is so encouraging! Please pray for our boys and young men. We joined with local organisation “4G Limited” who facilitate a day scheme for adults with additional needs and learning difficulties. This past month, one of those spaces for me was with the Lisburn Ladies football squad through our work with Sports Chaplaincy. Paul’s thank-you to the Philippians sees beyond their gift; it speaks of Paul’s special partnership with this church. The Greek word for “partner” is rooted in the word koinonia, which characterizes a deep spiritual bond—a kingdom bond. Over this last month, we have experienced this koinonia-type bond with other local Christian organizations investing in this generation. As you will hear, our partnership with the Girls' Brigade has enabled us to reach a significant number of girls and their leaders, helping the GB facilitate several conferences and leader training. We were also blessed by the invitation to visit Reach Mentoring, an organization that mentors and walks with a significant number of young people across the province. We had the privilege of leading a devotional time together, providing 50 mental health packs for their staff, and equipping them with additional resources to support their work. Our partnership with Sports Chaplaincy Ireland has also been a huge blessing. Not only are we able to minister to new groups of young people and help tend to their needs, but we are also seeing the fruit of kingdom partnerships working together. Within the last week, we have been so encouraged to hear how our workshops have helped pave the way for follow-up conversations with chaplains, who have also been supplying Bibles from Good News for Everyone to the young people—some of whom are asking their parents to read Scripture to them for the first time. Praise God. It is so important that we take the time to listen and seek to understand the needs of the young people we aim to serve. During our time at the Ulster Hospital, we had the privilege of meeting the staff there, who are doing incredible work on the front line. They shared heartbreaking stories of young people who have been admitted into their care for anything from a few days to a year. We heard how young lives and their families have been deeply affected by the challenges that mental ill-health, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, and other issues have caused. Through the kindness of God’s people who have supported this work prayerfully and underwritten it financially, we were able to leave a significant number of mental health packs in the hands of staff to distribute as they see fit. These packs are designed as seeds of hope, speaking life and light into the darkness that ill-health can bring. Our work in this area gives each person who receives a pack a clear pathway to our online support page. This page provides professional support for specific issues, shared testimonies, printable resources for parents and leaders, and pathways to organisations for those who require additional support. We have been working hard on these support pages and ask that you join us in praying for each and every young person who visits them. A highlight for me was getting to speak to young girls in a GB and watching one of our interns, Patricia, share her story with them. It was so powerful to watch how God used her vulnerability to encourage them and teach them about their value. I also thank God for our volunteer team. This month, we had time as a group to study the Bible together, and their heart for Jesus and desire to know Him more is so special. As a media department, we have been praying into how God can reach young people that we may never get to see face-to-face in schools or youth groups. In October, Rebekah and I travelled to Salou, Spain, to partner with the Evangelical Church of Salou in delivering workshops in local primary and high schools across the region. On a youth retreat, we also led two sessions with the young people from the church, exploring how we can live lives of purpose when we live in light of who God is. This was a great way to spark conversations about where we are in our walk with God and to encourage the young people to do the same. Chris and I had the privilege of taking our workshops to Spanish schools in collaboration with the Evangelical Church of Salou. Although they were initially hesitant to allow us into their schools since we are a Christian organization, God opened so many doors for us. The young people responded so positively to the workshops, which was incredible to see as they don’t have anything like what we deliver there. Comments from principals and teachers about our work were also really encouraging; despite their initial hesitation, they were eager to know if we’d come back! There were also some powerful moments with the church youth as we shared some of our teaching on Ephesians 2:10, challenging them to consider who God has made them to be. Please pray that each young person we spoke to would remember their identity, and for those who aren’t Christians to explore faith and consider who God is. In October, Rebekah and I travelled to Salou, Spain, to partner with the Evangelical Church of Salou in delivering workshops in local primary and high schools across the region. On a youth retreat, we also led two sessions with the young people from the church, exploring how we can live lives of purpose when we live in light of who God is. Johnny and I led a team to India in partnership with CFC (my church) to run workshops with university students in Vijayawada. We focused on mental health, self-esteem, and peer pressure. My prayer is that our teaching would have a ripple effect beyond our understanding. The students are studying nursing and physiotherapy; therefore, if they caught our vision, this could ripple into their approach within their local healthcare system, viewing mental health as equally important as physical health. Outside of workshops, we visited and opened a local water pump, which will provide 10 years of clean water for a nearby village. My favourite visit was to a newly opened Special Needs unit. Young people with special needs are offered no education and are often ostracised from society. The charity in India has a heavenly perspective and recognizes this is not the way Jesus would want them to be treated. They currently have funds to care for these individuals two days a week; however, their goal is five days. It feels like summer is a distant memory. Thank you for all of your prayers over us as the new term started, we really felt them and they enabled a very smooth beginning. We are in the privileged position of partnering with three other youth ministry organisations to run an event called interns together. These events happen three times a year and we kicked off with the first one in September. The vision is that we gather together individuals who are taking a year out to intern across various youth ministries in Northern Ireland. Our theme this year is “Here to Serve” looking at the model of Jesus in ministry. This was not only an amazing opportunity to be a part of but getting to work with other organisations, share ideas and cast vision was really life giving. The space the leaders provide there for young people going through really difficult times was an honour to be a part of and I really believe God used the workshops to speak to them. This insightful and unifying tool is used by Made For More in order to better understand our own personalities, our spiritual gifts and how we are designed to live and serve in community. This was an encouraging time to meet, be equipped and trained alongside missionaries based all over the world (albeit on zoom). Through this training I am now qualified to lead our interns, staff and volunteers in their own Grip Birkman assessments and on top of that, the training has reminded me in such a clear way of God’s power and design in creating us all in unique ways with different gifts, experiences and personalities. I am thankful for those who have been for a long time, and those new who bring a breath of fresh air. I also got the opportunity to speak at a sport chaplaincy event at Windsor Park - I was able to share my sporting experiences and stress the importance of the role of the Sport Chaplain in their teams. We had some incredible conversations and met some incredible people with stories of how God has moved in sports teams in the UK. On the final night 7 young people (that we know of for sure, may be more) decided to give their lives to Jesus! We were praising God for how He spoke to them, please continue to pray over them as they continue to grow. The verse from Joshua; “Be strong and courageous”, was the focus of the weekend as I sought to encourage and teach the group to step in to what God has for each of them as leaders. As a lad who came up through the BB, I saw the impact and power that good leaders have on the boys in their care. This made it such an encouragement to speak life and truth over a group of young men and women who are going to be leading in Boys Brigade companies all across Northern Ireland. I have been incredibly blessed to be invited to speak at a number of camps throughout the past few months. Firstly, Newtownbreda Sports camp, this was so much fun as I got to share the Gospel with hundreds of children one of the days a young girl came up to me and said “I have never known who Jesus was until this week, I have never been this happy.” For me this is what it is all about, children hearing about the love of Jesus for the first time and deciding to give their lives to him. WHAT A PRIVILEGE! I also got the chance to speak at Mullartown Senior Teens camp, this was an amazing evening where I got to share some of my story with an incredible bunch of young people. We saw salvation this night too which is just such a blessing to be able to be a part of. A couple of weeks ago I joined Castlewellen Holiday Week with the Methodist Church as their youth speaker. The theme for the week was “crown laid down” and we took the young people through how Jesus laid his crown down and then the challenge for the rest of the week is how we lay things down in our lives and what we are asked to pick up as followers of Jesus. The week ended with the young people kneeling and crying out to God to see a move of his Spirit in their generation, it was beautiful and I can’t believe God let me be a part of witnessing it. We come alongside their work experience programme called “Generation Innovation”. They had around 900 young people that we worked with throughout the month. Through the programme the young people are put into teams and partner with a business coming up with innovative solutions to company problems. Our role was to speak to the young people about their mental health while on the work experience programme. As we continue on this mission to reach a generation of young people we have felt the prayers and financial support from Gods people that enable this work to happen. In May we have been in many workshops in primary schools, chatting to P7s all about moving on to big school. It has been a great privilege to be able to feed into the lives of these children as they embark on a big life change. It was really encouraging to hear the young people talking about what they are excited for and equipping them with strategies for when they are feeling nervous. For me transition is created of excitement and anticipation, especially as we approach transition within our internship, some volunteers, and on a personal level, getting married! I was in a couple of Primary schools at the beginning of May, including my old Primary school. We were delivering workshops to some P7’s and how they can transition smoothly into secondary school. I really felt like we were getting through to the P7s and really preparing them for later life. I felt incredibly encouraged after these workshops and so strongly that we were making a difference in these young lives. Over the month of May, I was also encouraged to see the interns developing in so many areas of their faith and personalities. This was optimised when Lois shared her testimony at our team night. It was just amazing to see how she has progressed in her life over the last few months. Beth, Rhys and I had another India team meeting which was great. We got to know the rest of the team on a deeper level which brought a new level of excitement to the whole team! We filmed a three part programme for form tutors in year 8 called “Little fish big pond” which is essentially a helpful tool for the pupils first few days as they transition from primary school to secondary school. The second set of resources we created were on the theme of digital footprint for the Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade. This is a workshop format and the idea is that it can be used by all companies as we are limited in being able to see them in a face to face capacity. On our team discipleship trip we had some really special moments of worship together as a team and as we left space for Him to speak it was amazing to see how directly and clearly He revealed Himself to us. Personally, I was reminded of the power of His presence and the fact that He sees and knows us intimately. This time as a team really strengthens us as we come back into workshops. I’ve also had the opportunity this month to speak life over young people that have no church context or background, reminding them that they are so loved and that God has a purpose for them. Thank you for your prayers as we partner with God’s Spirit moving in their lives. We took our first corporate booking in Deloitte which was another opportunity to see other avenues that God might want to lead us into. Please pray that we are open to His leading as we look ahead at where He wants us to be. Finally, please pray for the upcoming merchandise launch. All the behind the scenes work has been happening over the last few months and I’m excited to launch in May. God though has reminded of how he also operates in the quiet, still moments that sometimes go unnoticed. One such moment in April was in a workshop with one of our interns, Lois. We were doing workshops with P6 classes in a Belfast primary school on resilience, when a boy asked Lois if it was ok to cry. I was so impressed with how Lois responded with kindness and truth, sitting with him and explaining that crying is not a bad thing at all, it is a normal way to express how you feel. I was reminded not only of how Jesus wept, but how God blesses us at Made for More with the chance to speak fundamental truths into the lives of many young people. Sometimes this is in a loud, fun way, and yet other times, it is in quiet, one on on discussions. Please continue to pray for more and more conversations with the young people we encounter. I am so thankful that the Lord has opened the doors for us to reach these young people - they are so fun and bring a lot of joy to our workshops. Please pray that our bookings would continue to move at God’s pace, and that our teaching would impact their lives! In other news - a highlight for me was our staff retreat. We were able to have 2 days to unite our team, and I believe carving intentional space like that is a massive factor towards the excellence we strive for. God spoke beautifully and directly to our team through the teaching and alone time, and it truly has refreshed each of us. We really want to thank God for that special time away. The quality time we spent together and with God was very unique and life changing for some people. It has been a real encouragement to spend time with people who share in the desire to impact this generation for Jesus and to strategise as to how we can best meet the needs of young people together. We are excited by the opportunities that God is inviting Made for More into as we begin to deliver new workshops and resources within special Educational Needs schools, youth groups & within the sports sector in partnership with Sports Chaplaincy Ireland. We are excited to serve and support young people within football, GAA, rugby and hockey clubs, supporting the chaplains who are doing an incredible work as God’s ambassadors within these communities. On a personal level, I had the privilege of a weeks travel, following in the footsteps of the apostle Paul’s second missionary journey as part of my theological studies with Dallas Seminary. It was an incredible time as we travelled through Philippi, Corinth, Athens and Ephesus during the day and engaged in the teaching sessions at night. I was captivated by Paul’s faith, commitment and courage to live out the call of Jesus upon his life and the divine perspective that Paul operated with. This included their sixth form pupils and it was brilliant. The pupils looked at key aspects of leadership, self awareness, critical thinking and stress management we gave them tips of how to understand who they are more and what attributes make a good leader in all aspects of life. We also managed to gunge a member of staff so it was an incredible day all round, we have more events in the pipeline so watch this space. I also got the opportunity to teach the bible in a couple of different church services this month, what a privilege and my favourite thing i get to do as part of my job. A highlight was speaking in Carrick Grammar SU, it’s so encouraging to see how the young people there are building community and it was amazing to see our intern Rhys using his gifting to share God’s word. I felt God pushing me to speak on walking in freedom from the chains and sins that hold us down. As young men in a world that CS Lewis describes as the ‘Kingdom of Noise’, these lads are so often bombarded by attacks from the enemy, their own struggles and what the world says over them. Jesus says something different. In John 6v37 He says: “All that the Father gives me will come to me and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” We focused on the heart of God for sinners and that he will never cast us out, we just need to come back to Him. In a world full of Prodigal sons and daughters, please continue to pray for the young people we speak to on a daily basis. Mark 3:13-15 gives us a little insight into the order that we are to submit to, an order that challenges our western mindset and individual formation. We live in a cultural moment that often considers activity to be the measurement of success, yet the way of Jesus revealed in this passage challenges that mindset. ‘And Jesus went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach and have authority.’ The order here is to be with Jesus, so that in his presence we may become more like him, and only then will we be fit to be ’sent’ to minister effectively. With prayer we have assumed that we initiate the conversation, yet the truth is that when we pray, we are simply saying yes to God’s invitation. It’s not we who initiate the conversation. God starts it by inviting us to ‘be with him.’ When we pray we are reminding ourselves, our spirit, that God is with us, or as Paul writes in Romans 8:16 ‘The spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.’ Prayer begins with God not us, an unconditional 24/7 access into his presence, but it’s our choice to be available to him. Our inner transformation in the quiet place affects everything that we do and what we carry, as dwelling places of the Holy Spirit, to a world in need. In our sending out, we have much to thank God for. He has paved the way for our kingdom influence to grow across Special Education Needs schools; across Sports teams in partnership with Sports Chaplaincy Ireland; within hospitals as we cast new vision for our mental health packs; and overseas mission. We also want to honour each and every person who sows into this organisation prayerfully and financially. Young people in NI are faced with so much and it’s a privilege to be invited into their story and be a part of their healing process. Our vision in Made for More is to train and equip leaders who will work with young people so they can feel confident when faced with difficult situations. Please pray for the incredible youth workers across NI, we work with so many who are under resourced but love their young people so deeply and constantly show the love of Jesus to them. This passage has been so life giving as I delve deeper into it and see God’s vision for us to become people of love. His desire that we would be transformed into His likeness has been my prayer across so many areas of our organisation. I have been so thankful for how God is using our team to reach young people across Northern Ireland, giving us the opportunities to speak into their struggles. I’ve also been encouraged by our team nights as we enjoy fellowship and a time of testimony and prayer together as I see real transformation here. This last month has seen us reflect on a deeper level with Rhys, John and Lois about who God has made them to be. Following an in-depth study of the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts, we are now diving deep into a book called ‘Emotionally Healthy Spirituality’, a book that proposes the idea that it’s impossible to be spiritually mature while remaining emotionally immature. For us and the interns, this study has started incredible conversations and exploration around understanding some of the experiences and moments that have shaped us today and how to lean on God’s provision of healing and growth emotionally and spiritually. In the space of 3 hours, we spoke to every single student in the school - what an absolute privilege! God opened a door that meant every girl aged 4 to 11, in every class, in every year group was told they are God’s masterpiece, they have value and their life really matters. It isn’t every day you get to speak to that many people, and I didn’t take it lightly - we as a team are rejoicing over that opportunity! This month I got to share at a youth event called HUB (Hear, Understand, Become) on “how to stick with God through hard times”. This was exactly a year since my son was born and we journeyed through his sickness. It was a big moment for me, but I absolutely loved sharing Arlo’s healing story and getting to give God all the glory from it. We did a response at the end where young people came forward and got prayer for a difficult circumstance that they may be going through and invite God into it. We also gave them a truth from God to take away with them. Johnny has been a brilliant addition to our team in leading workshops and having one of our volunteers Matty with us for his alternative placement has been a real blessing. We have also been able to provide safeguarding staff in schools and youth groups with important disclosures about what young people are struggling with so that they can get help. This past month has been one of my most memorable at Made for More as we took our workshops to Spain in collaboration with Override Salou. We were given so many opportunities to show the love of Jesus and tell people about what He has done for them. God opened doors for us to deliver workshops in primary schools which is incredibly difficult as a Christian organisation in a very secular environment. For our team this was a joy as Calvin, Chris and I were able to use our gifts of Spanish and media to serve. Please pray that the young people we met and poured into would seek Jesus for themselves. Another highlight for me this month would be Carrick Grammar SU weekend. Teaching on Ephesians 6 and the Armour of God was a great opportunity to remember that our identity in Him is so valuable and worth protecting. Rebekah, Calvin and I partnered with the Protestant Church of Salou in Spain, to bring the message of Made for More to local children and young people. Spain is a really spiritually dark place, so it was amazing to be able to serve here. We recorded testimonies from members of the church and their youth, we delivered workshops in two different schools, at a local youth centre, and held two events with the youth from the church and other church communities in the local area. What an incredible blessing to be able to bring the love of Jesus to the young people in the area of Salou! Please pray for God’s guidance in establishing further connections between Made for More and the church in Salou, Spain. This is a verse that I have been revisiting over the last 4 weeks time and time again. It goes against the cultural norm and the ‘natural' speed of life; to stop and be still. But as we look at the life and ministry of Jesus we see this as part of His daily rhythm and a way of life we should all look to adopt. For me this needs to be a consistent part of my day as I follow Jesus and lead Made for More, because it is in the stillness that God speaks to us and guides us. Specifically, there have been three young girls who I’ve had the privilege of connecting with and that God put on my heart. Two of them openly shared their struggles with me and allowed me to pray with them about their situations. This was so special since they became Christians only in the past year. The third girl I wasn’t able to have as much dialogue with, however based on her written feedback it was clear that she found the session with us helpful. God has constantly been reminding me that His Holy Spirit is always working behind the scenes. I’ve loved seeing our team bond and get to know each other better this month as God uses those places of trust and vulnerability to bring transformation. This summer I had the opportunity to lead a camp at Mullartown House that consisted of 24 leaders and over 80 young people between the ages of 12-15. We explored the book of Ephesians looking at who Jesus is, who they are in light of who He is, and what He has done for them. Please be praying for the 80 young people, that the seeds that have been sown this week would have landed in good soil and would continue to be watered and grow throughout their lives. It has been such a privilege to help encourage and build up our young leaders as we have looked to disciple them well. Last week we created a space where each of them had an opportunity to speak to the group from God’s word as well as exploring spiritual gifts. It was incredible to see them grow in these areas. Finally will you join me in prayer for two girls called Lauren and Jessica. They are two campers who came to know Jesus as their saviour this week. Both of these girls have such a desire to walk in a manner worthy of God and were totally transformed by the Holy Spirit this week.
